Switcher.ie welcomes quad player Virgin Media to the Irish market but encourages consumers to review their bundle deals
Eoin Clarke, Managing Director of Switcher.ie commented: “UPC’s business transformation to Virgin Media is good news for consumers. Virgin is an iconic brand and is recognised as a world class company. A lot of people will be already be familiar with Virgin Media thanks to Virgin Megastores. Virgin Media has global brand awareness and the UPC brand could not compete on the same level.
“Virgin Media brings experience to the Irish communications market. Virgin Media was the first provider to offer quad play bundles in the UK in May 2014, while UPC was the first to introduce bundles for digital TV, broadband and phone in Ireland in 2007. The introduction of Virgin Media to the Irish market will impact competition and lead to more choice and better offers for Irish consumers. Following this business transition, it is important that Irish consumers know there could be an opportunity to reduce their communications outgoings.
“Newly rebranded eir has been the only provider offering quad play bundles (broadband, digital television, home phone and mobile) to Irish consumers, and from next Monday, Virgin Media will also compete in this space by offering mobile packages to new and existing customers. To celebrate the launch of mobile, Virgin Media is offering an exclusive three month free mobile trial to its 500,000 existing customers.
“Even if you’re happy with your existing broadband and mobile phone deal, the market in Ireland is very competitive. Switch as often as you can. Broadband and mobile networks are fighting hard to win new customers, there is always a new discount or other incentive on offer. The cheapest deals aren’t always the best, so the first thing you’ll need to think about is what you want from your internet connection and mobile phone. Bundling could save you around €300 a year.”
