Energia’s arrival to the domestic gas and electricity market is a welcome boost for consumers in Ireland
New market entrant Energia could result in price war that benefits consumers.
- Energia is now the cheapest dual fuel supplier in the market – €1,921 per year
- Energia’s offer will guarantee savings of 15% off their standard gas rate and 16% off their standard electricity rate
- Bord Gáis Energy is the cheapest electricity supplier in the market – €1,067 per year
- Flogas Natural Gas is the cheapest gas supplier in the market – €852 per year
Today’s announcement that Energia, independent energy supplier to the business sector in Ireland, has now launched its services to the domestic consumer market, has been welcomed as great news for consumers by uSwitch.ie, the independent price comparison and switching service. Following today’s launch, Energia’s dual fuel offer to customers is now set to become the most competitive offering in the market, with their new range of price plans coming into effect on Thursday, 30th January.
Commenting on the news, Eoin Clarke, head of uSwitch.ie, said: “Increased competition in the gas and electricity markets means more choice for consumers. With a spate of price increases already recently-announced by the existing energy utility providers, we are delighted to see Energia entering the Irish domestic market with a competitive offering that could reap savings of €312 for consumers switching from the most expensive gas and electricity standard price plans on the market.
“At the start of a new year filled with rising bills, it is more important than ever for consumers to do their research and make the easy switch to the best value offering for their particular needs. The real concern that we have however, is that people are so slow to switch supplier when their contract ends, despite having more competitive offerings in the market that would yield significant personal savings over the course of the next year.
“With the entry of Energia into the market, the cheapest overall option is now for customers to sign up to Energia’s ‘SmartChoice Dual Fuel (Direct Debit & Online Billing, 1 year contract)’ tariff. Previously the cheapest option was gas from Flogas Natural Gas and electricity from Bord Gáis Energy.”
Energia’s three new price plans are available on the uSwitch.ie website.
