New eVision TV service from eircom is cheaper than rival operators Sky and UPC
Eoin Clarke, Head of uSwitch.ie, says: “This is a welcome addition to the line-up of TV providers in Ireland. A new entrant like this can only mean good things for Irish consumers. The relatively low cost of eVision compared to other providers will force the other players to re-evaluate their own costs and hopefully we will see lots of savings that will help customers in Ireland to lower their home entertainment and communications outgoings.
“The introduction of eVision to the Irish market means that for the first time Irish consumers can now take advantage of quad-play (landline, broadband, mobile and television) savings. Having all your communication and entertainment costs on one bill should allow for more savings and transparency. We expect more providers to emulate this move and the more providers offering quad play will mean more competition when it comes to bundling and allow for even more savings.”
“eVision’s Essential TV pack provides savings of €204 per year compared to Sky and €222 compared to UPC. Moving up, their Essential + Experience TV pack will offer savings of €228 per year compared to Sky and €258 compared to UPC. However, we would advise customers to exercise caution when calculating the total cost of getting eVision into their home. Only eircom eFibre customers can avail of the new eVision TV service. The eFibre broadband service adds an additional cost to the TV prices quoted by eircom. eFibre costs between €30 and €74 per month depending on which package you choose. The same caution should be applied when evaluating digital TV add-ons. eVision offers 2 Sports channels for €29, Sky offers 6 channels for €35 and UPC offers 4 channels for €34. It’s a similar story for Movies. eVision offers 6 channels for €24. Sky and UPC offer 12 channels for €28 and €32 respectively.”
“eVision is launching with a special introductory that will see all customers who sign up to eVision before December 31st receive the first six months of the Essential TV pack free of charge in addition to free set up and a free set top box. This is a great offer but we would advise customers to take their time before switching. We expect the other providers to react to this launch with their own special offers. Before switching take the time to look at all the offers out there and choose the package that suits you best.”
