uSwitch launches Ireland’s first mobile optimised energy comparison website for consumers on the move
uSwitch.ie, the independent price comparison and switching service, has today launched a mobile-friendly version of its easy-to-use website so that consumers can find the best deals on energy bills while on the move.
uSwitch.ie is the first price comparison and switching service in Ireland to offer this service and to recognise the changing needs of consumers and the increasing use of mobile devices in everyday lives.
According to the latest Mobile Web Watch study by Accenture, some 77 per cent of Irish internet users now use mobile devices such as phones, tablets and netbooks to access the internet.
As smartphone and tablet use reaches critical mass, consumers are wising up to the benefits of shopping around for the best deals. And with more consumers researching their purchasing decisions through mobile devices, online shopping is expected to continue its migration from desktop to mobile.
In response to this rapidly changing trend, uSwitch has developed a new responsive web design that enables the uSwitch website to resize itself and adapt to different screens regardless of the device being used to access it.
This allows for easy reading and navigation for busy consumers on the move. As the user switches from laptop to iPad for example, the website automatically switches to accommodate for resolution, text and image size. This will allow hard-pressed consumers to access the best value deals and prices from any mobile device.
Eoin Clarke, Head of uSwitch.ie, says: “This is about understanding customers and how our service fits into their lives. We recognise that they probably won’t be in front of a laptop or computer when they want to use our site – nowadays it’s far more likely that they will be visiting us via a tablet or smart phone. They want to compare the best deals in the market and switch to save money on their household bills while they are on the move, using their commute or down-time to sort out their finances.
“This move is important because it is making our free, independent and impartial service even more accessible for consumers. And with savings of up to €254 a year just by switching energy supplier, we hope to be able to unlock even more savings for Irish consumers.”
The uSwitch.ie website offers a selection of simple tools and calculators to help people to find the best deal to suit their needs, when it comes to energy, home broadband and digital television suppliers. Consumers will also find savings tips and helpful advice when it comes to dealing with suppliers.
Earlier this month, uSwitch.ie was accredited by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) in Ireland, ensuring the site meets a clear set of standards for accuracy, transparency and reliability.
