Research from one Ireland’s leading discount codes websites has revealed that 1 in 3 Irish shoppers have already started their Christmas shopping – with 3 months to go until 25th December. 8% of respondents revealed that they had already completed their festive shopping, providing a welcome pre-season boost for Irish retailers.
www.DiscountCodes.ie commissioned a poll to gauge people’s sentiment towards their Christmas spending this year, bearing in mind the current economic climate, and the money saving focus of the site.
Initially asked to answer ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to whether they had completed all of their Christmas shopping, the 92% of respondents who answered ‘No’ were then asked when they would start preparing for the holiday season.
Of those polled, 29% said they would wait till November to start their Christmas shopping, whilst 23% said they would wait till December.
Just 3% said they would leave it until Christmas Eve to start, and complete, their Christmas shopping.
The many reasons for leaving the hunt for Christmas presents until the last minute included:
– Unsure of whether their friend or family member would “change their mind about what they want.”
– “Too busy” to start their shopping early.
– Many shoppers said they “need to save” before they can start budgeting for Christmas.
Commenting on the results, Hugh Durkin, Founder of DiscountCodes.ie said:
“I wish I was as prepared as the 8% of Irish shoppers who have already completed their Christmas shopping – well done to them! It’s the easiest thing in the world to leave your Christmas shopping until the last minute, but it is important to remember that the earlier we start our shopping, the longer we have to spread the costs out, and find the best money saving vouchers.”
“Whether you start your Christmas shopping now, or leave it till the last minute, www.DiscountCodes.ie has thousands of great discounts from hundreds of retailers, so be sure to check out the site to make the most of your Christmas budget.”
