Fixed Wireless Broadband has in excess of 107,000 customers and has been a key driver in the take-up of broadband services in Ireland. To support the growing broadband demand, ComReg is now proposing to make additional spectrum available for FWALA licensing in the 10.5 GHz band. This follows the recent launch of ComReg’s public consultation with regard to the release of further spectrum for broadband at 3.5GHz (ComReg Document 08/99).
ComReg is also proposing to make 154 MHz of spectrum available between
10.000 – 10.154GHz. Taking into account ComReg’s objectives, interested
parties are invited to submit opinions on how this spectrum could be best employed. ComReg believes that the proposals outlined in this consultation will address the spectrum needs of both existing and potential FWALA operators and facilitate further network expansion to meet growing consumer demand for increased availability and choice in broadband services.
