Would your company benefit from employing an intern on a short-term basis?
Do you have projects coming up for which you could do with an extra pair of hands?
If so, why not consider getting involved in The Digital Hub’s ‘Best in Show’?
What is ‘Best in Show’?
‘Best in Show’ is a competition organised by the Digital Hub Development Agency (DHDA), whereby final-year digital media and creative students are invited to submit a sample of their work for judging by a panel of relevant industry leaders. Entries are invited in various categories, including:
•Digital Design (anything that uses a digital process to create a still image)
•Film/Video
•Multimedia (incl. Web Design, Moble Apps, and Games)
•Animation
•Audio/Music
The best entry in each category wins a four-week work placement in a relevant company.
What are the benefits for my company of getting involved?
The benefits for your company of getting involved in ‘Best in Show’ are as follows:
• The winner in the competition category of relevance to your company will carry out a four-week work placement in your company at a date of your choosing (from August 2011 onwards). This will be an unpaid internship, so will not incur any costs for your company. The winning entrant in your relevant category will have just completed his / her final year at college, so will be fully qualified.
• Taking on an intern on this basis allows your company to build links which may prove useful for your future recruitment needs. Three of the graduates who participated in last year’s ‘Best in Show’, for example, have gone on to work on a paid basis for the companies where they completed their placements.
• Because a wide range of companies get involved in ‘Best in Show’, you can benefit from networking and business development opportunities. Two of the companies involved in last year’s competition, for example, have gone on to partner on a number of business initiatives.
• DHDA implements an extensive PR strategy for ‘Best in Show’ each year. In the past, the competition has featured in national newspapers; on RTÉ radio; in sectoral media outlets; and on a wide range of regional radio stations. If your company gets involved in ‘Best in Show’, you will be invited to attend all media events and to participate in photocalls marking key stages in the competition, so that your company benefits from these publicity opportunities.
What am I expected to do as a participating company?
If your company decides to get involved in ‘Best in Show’, you will be expected to:
• Attend the competition launch (a photocall at The Digital Hub in April 2011) and other media events, as relevant, and commit to having your involvement publicised through the PR strategy for ‘Best in Show’.
• Work with representatives from DHDA in choosing the winning entrant in the category of relevance to your work.
• Offer the winning entrant a four-week (unpaid) work placement in your company, at a time of your choosing (from June 2011 onwards).
• Provide feedback to DHDA on your experiences of ‘Best in Show’.
