In these tough times a bit of positive news in the motor industry front is always welcome. The commercial vehicle industry has taken a sterner hit than most with new registrations down as much as 90% in certain vehicle categories.

During March 2010 commercial truck and van hire operator vanrentals.ie have taken delivery of their first batch of Mercedes Sprinter hire vans.

This is quite a departure for the online van hire operator since all prior panel van units had been supplied by Ford. The new Mercedes units are of a higher specifiation than the Ford Transit models they are replacing.

According to Noel Crowther, Sales manager for Vanrentals.ie " Despite the tough trading conditions out there, we really needed to modernise our fleet, rental vans really only have a 24 month life cycle and we had to invest to keep our ensure our fleet remained the most modern in Ireland". These new models are in addition to current Mercedes truck rental vehicles run by the company.

The new Mercedes van hire units are equipped with a 2.2 litres diesel engine which is both more economical and powerful than the Ford Transit engine.

Another first is the inclusion of high quality marine ply interior and anchor points in the floors to assist housemovers.

Vanrentals.ie and Mercedes Commercials Ireland are looking forward to a fruitful partnership over the coming years.
