'Love-athon' Raises €1300 for Barnardos this Valentine's Day

Last Thursday, February 11th, 70 single ladies and gents took the opportunity to do some good while celebrating Valentine's Day, and managed to raise €1300 in aid of Barnardos Children's Charity. The Valentine's 'Love-athon' event was hosted by Ireland’s largest online dating site, AnotherFriend.com, and took place at the The Odoen on Harcourt Street, Dublin.
The night kicked off at 8pm with complimentary champagne for all the guests, which they sipped as they mixed and mingled with other singles. The ‘Luv’ Quiz that followed was the highlight of the night, with MC Aidan entertaining guests with a range of questions relating to love, romance and Valentine's Day, as well as some general knowledge questions for the less romantic people in the room!
The guests were divided up into teams, each consisting of three men or women, and two teams were seated at each table. As this was a 'Luv' quiz, the male teams were required to move table after each round, giving guests the chance to meet and chat to as many people as possible. AnotherFriend.com also provided each guest with speed dating cards, which they could choose to fill in and return at the end of the night if they wanted to exchange details with somebody they had been chatting to.
To raise money for Barnardos, a raffle was held on the night, and there were plenty of prizes to go around — including some luxurious hampers, dinner vouchers, wine, pampering vouchers, event tickets and free premium membership on AnotherFriend.com. Barnardos representatives were on hand to sell raffle tickets and over €200 was collected from guests.
All in all, the Valentine’s ‘Love-athon’ was a very entertaining night, where singles had the chance to get together and have some fun, all while contributing to a worthy cause. So who says Valentine's Day has to be a cliché!
