The LGCSB are a public sector organisation, closely aligned with local government in Ireland. Our job is to provide local authorities with the best possible solutions to meet all their Information and Communications Technologies needs, to help local authorities develop appropriate strategies to underpin their business needs and to help them implement appropriate solutions.
Our role is evolving from a traditional approach of in-house development, based on 3rd and 4th generation databases, to a mix of in-house web-based development, outsourcing of development requirements and the use of standard packages.
We deliver solutions to a broad range of local government clients, from administrators to engineering staff to planning staff, using a wide spectrum of technologies.
We are currently exploring the most extensive use possible of emerging technologies in terms of Intranet-based delivery of solutions, the use of GIS over the Web, and mobile computing opportunities. We are heavily involved in the implementation of new financial management systems, which will move local authorities to the use of full accrual-based accounting and will provide the foundation to enable local authorities to participate in e-commerce and e-procurement opportunities in the future.
Our remit is extending to include participation in the Information Society Implementation agenda and of working both within the local government sector and with other sectors to achieve cohesive delivery of all electronic public services to all the users of such services.
We employ approximately 100 people, with a wide range of skills to meet the computing needs of our client base. We believe in developing and enhancing the skills of our main resource, the people who work in the organisation.
The content of our web-site, in common with most other sites, is an organic and evolving process. For local authority staff and for other trusted users we offer more extensive information and knowledge source, access to which is on a more restrictive basis. Please contact us if you wish to be considered to be given further access to our site.
