Minister for the Information Society, Ms Mary Hanafin T.D has invited Chief Executive Officer Irene Gahan to represent the IIA as part of an official delegation at the European Ministerial Conference on the Information Society Commission in Budapest on the 26th & 27th of February 2004. The conference is being co-organised by the Irish Presidency, the Hungarian Government and the European Commission. The Irish delegation to the conference includes Minister Mary Hanafin T.D., Minister Dermot Ahern T.D, officials from the Departments of the Taoiseach, Enterprise of Trade and Employment, and
Communications Marine and Natural Resources as well as representatives of industry and academics. The conference theme is ‘New Opportunities for Growth in an Enlarged Europe’. This conference will provide an opportunity for accession and
candidate countries to discuss and review commitments undertaken by them in the eEurope Action Plan.
The conference will include plenary sessions and parallel thematic sessions on areas such as best practice and initiatives at national and regional levels that further the development of national information society strategies and encourage entrepreneurship and ebusiness.
