Event Date : 14 Apr 2010
This workshop will take you through the process of setting up web analytics on your website so you are collecting accurate, useful data.
You'll get a solid grounding in the terminology, learn how to understand and make use of key reports and you'll be applying what you learn to your own site as you go. Run in partnership with iQ Content.
Who is this workshop for?
If you have never used analytics before, or you are drowning in data and don't know where to start, then this is the workshop for you.
We will use Google Analytics to illustrate points and complete exercises, so those interested in using this free product will derive maximum benefit. However many principles and data analysis techniques taught at this workshop also apply to other Web Analytics tools. As such, if you use any other tool you will also benefit by attending.
Ideally you should bring your own laptop and have access to your website's Google Analytics account.
NOTE: We will make the screencast "How to set up Google Analytics on your site" available on our blog in May. This will cover the entire process of setting up a GA account from scratch and tagging your site to send data to your GA account.
What will be covered?
Through demonstrations and practical exercises we will:
- Introduce you to basic concepts and terminology in analytics
- Bring you through key reports
- Familiarise you with key report functionality
- Learn how to correctly configure profiles to collect accurate data
- Identify what's important to your site, and how to track it
We'll use Google Analytics to demonstrate but the principles and techniques covered can be used with any tool.
Agenda
- Analytics concepts and terminology: what you need to know
- Understanding basic reports: what's there and what can you do with it
- Collecting accurate data: getting basic profile configuration right
- Collecting useful data: tracking what's important to your site
What will you get out of it?
Each attendee will work on configuring and analysing their own data during the workshop (if possible) so after completing this workshop you will:
- Understand web analytics terminology.
- Understand basic reports, and be able to confidently interpret your metrics so you can make the right decisions about your website based on real data.
- Learn what you should be paying attention to
- Be able to configure profiles to collect the data you need to measure the performance of your site
