Event Date : 10 Oct 2007
The IIA and iQ Content present a full day course which presents key techniques for understanding and modelling the kind of experience users have on your website. In the first half of the day, the course will cover modelling your users with Personas, while in the afternoon it will cover planning and conducting a user test of your website.
Course Outline
The course will have 4 modules:
Module 1: Introducing Personas
We will cover the case for using personas to profile users and the types of data that can be used to create personas. You will learn:
- Why you need to profile your key users.
- Why many forms of user information are useless for directing web design.
- What sources of information are useful for profiling users.
Module 2: Creating Personas
Module 2 covers the process of analysing data to discern useful patterns for creating personas. You will also look at the process of writing up personas and at their use in the design process. You will learn:
- How to use patterns of behaviour to find personas.
- The difference between goals and tasks, and why it is important.
- How to prioritise personas.
- How to get from raw data to a finished persona.
Module 3: Introducing User Testing
This covers the benefits of user testing and the various quick-and-dirty approaches most likely to pay dividends in your design process. You will learn:
- Why user testing is an essential element for creating a usable website
- What types of user test there are
- Your options for setting up a usability lab
- What test lab tools iQ Content use
Module 4: Conducting a User Test
Module 4 covers how to plan and conduct a usability test, including a practical exercise in which we will conduct a user test. You will learn:
- How to plan a user test and recruit users
- How to facilitate a test and take good notes
- How to user test for accessibility
Course Trainer
Your trainer is John Wood, Senior Analyst at iQ Content
Who should attend?
The course is relevant to anyone who takes decisions that shape your organisation's website. Managers will learn what capabilities they can deploy to collect data and understand their users needs, web design team members can learn how to deploy these techniques and put immediate feedback into the design process.
